I was very excited before I even watched it —
and I found it a bit odd.
It wasn’t really the plot that interested me.
I like the characters — but alright, that wasn’t it either.
It felt almost like going to a concert:
I wasn’t there for anything specific — just to be carried by the rhythm,
and let my body be hit by the tempo.
Yet, it was more than the sensuous satisfaction.
Maybe it’s the way Fujimoto uses symbols —
the plot as symbol, the characters as symbol, the scenes and all elements as symbol. And the visuals and the music forming one experience.
And freedom. Freedom of wildness and bizarre.
I walked out of the cinema humming the ending theme.
It lingered without any thinking at all.
If you get a chance, go watch it.
It’s not the kind of piece that changes people’s lives,
but simply — a high-quality piece of art.
And tell me about it if you ever watch it.
Till next time,
